Underlying causes of WW1
3rd Hour
World War One was a taking place during a large changing time for the world. It was caused by the unwillingness to adapt to the change. World War One was fought between the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente. But what were the underlying causes of this world war? There are at least three underlying causes of World War One, of them imperialism was the most Important. The other Two causes were Alliances, and Militarism.
There are at least three underlying causes of World War One, The first one I will be writing about is Alliances. In this war there was two two groups of alliances, the Triple Alliance, and the triple Entente. The Triple Alliance was made up of Germany, Austria- Hungary, and Italy. Then there was the Triple Entente which was made up of France, the United Kingdom, and Russia. What sparked the war was the assassination of the Archduke of in Serbia. Countries started to accuse other countries of who did it, killing the peace in Europe. Then once war started the alliances between nations started to show because these alliance groups were created, causing a world war.
There are at least three underlying causes of World War one, the next cause was militarism in nations. In 1890 Austria and Germany’s total amount spent on their military was 42 million pounds, at the beginning of the war in 1914 it turned to a total of 150 million pounds. For Great Britain, Russia, and France in 1890 they spent 100 million pounds in total on military. By 1914 their spending as a group turned to 250 million pounds. This total amount of pounds spent on military quadrupled for each alliance between 1890 and 1914.
Out of the three underlying causes of World War One Imperialism was the most important in the cause of the war. In 1913 Britain embraced the idea of imperialism, which made them have 12,740,000 square miles of area for its colonial empires. The person closest to them in size of colonial empires was France, they only held 4,440,000 square miles of area. This Concerned Germany because with each of these colonies came more power by the adding of weapons, and resources. Each colony held by Britain was seen as another alliance. With this power they had gained came jealousy. They believed that Britain was sucking the natural resources all over the world. They believed that the british were trying to take over the world.
Although there were at least three underlying causes of World War One, of these causes imperialism was the most important in causing the war. Imperialism was the cause for the other two underlying causes. Alliances were combined when countries started to fight over imperialism. Militarism was shown when war was thought to be upon the countries and once the wars started militarism continued.
